Friars Prepare for BIG EAST showdown against Villanova, Georgetown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team is set to face a challenging weekend, hosting Villanova and Georgetown at Alumni Hall. The Friars will welcome Villanova on Friday, October 24 at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Sunday, October 26 matchup against Georgetown at 2:00 p.m. These contests represent crucial opportunities for Providence to bolster its position in the BIG EAST standings and build momentum as the season progresses.
Providence (13-9, 3-3 BIG EAST) enters the weekend following a strong showing from key players. Junior Abby harrell currently leads the team with 249 kills, averaging 3.77 per set – ranking her fourth in the BIG EAST. On the defensive front, Harrell also paces the wildcats with 182 digs. Sophomore Alyssa Nelson directs the offense, having recorded 386 assists and averaging 5.85 assists per set,placing her ninth in the conference.Sophomore Campbell McKinnon is a force at the net, boasting a.409 hitting percentage,second best in the BIG EAST.
villanova presents a formidable opponent, while Georgetown arrives with a 10-9 overall record and a 3-3 conference mark, having recently faced Villanova and Creighton. georgetown’s offense is spearheaded by sophomore Dionna Mitchell, who leads the Hoyas in both kills (235) and digs (172). Sophomore Juleigh Urbina orchestrates the Georgetown attack with a team-high 466 assists, averaging 6.13 assists per set, good for seventh in the BIG EAST. Junior Kamryn Lee-Caracci contributes a .366 hitting percentage, ranking sixth in the conference.
Several Friars have already earned recognition for their performance this season. Hadley Pride has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll four times (September 8, 22, 29, and October 13) and earned All-tournament Team honors at the Ocean State Cup, Friar Classic, and Pelican Invitational, where she was named Libero of the Tournament.Sophia Adkins has also been recognized on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll (september 8 and 15) and secured All-Tournament Team accolades at the ocean State Cup, Pelican Invitational, and was named MVP of the Friar Classic.Miller McDonald earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Lion Invitational, and Macy Taylor was recognized at the Friar Classic.
Following the weekend’s action, Providence will travel to face UCONN on Sunday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m.
