Daddy Yankee Embarks on New chapter, Focusing on Faith-Based Music & Self-reliant Career
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Daddy Yankee, the global reggaeton superstar, is forging a new path as a fully independent artist with a renewed focus on incorporating faith into pop culture, according to a recent Billboard cover story published this month. The artist was named Billboard’s cover star for October 2025, recognizing his lasting influence both within and beyond the music industry.
Yankee revealed he is now self-managed,operating “100% with good alliances,” including a partnership with HYBE Latin America, which will release his upcoming album under the DY Records label. He credits the creation of his album, “Lamento en baile,” with providing strength during a personal crisis, emphasizing the importance of faith.
“I never thought I would be in this situation, but I found myself in it. And the strength I found to record the ‘Lamento en baile’ album was what helped me a lot as well,” Yankee stated in the interview. “To regain strength, as when we are in the middle of the crisis, one of the greatest strengths we have is to worship and praise the Lord, the happiness he gives you.”
The “Big Boss,” known for hits like “Gasolina,” “Despacito,” and “Con calma,” now aims to “put the kingdom in pop culture,” clarifying this is not simply about creating Christian music. He shared his advice to aspiring artists: “My advice to artists is that, even if they are not famous or triumphant, get married with capitulation.”
