Blue Jays Assistant GM James Click Interviews for Rockies GM⁢ Position During Playoff Run

Toronto, ON – As the Toronto Blue jays navigate their playoff push, assistant general manager James Click is reportedly a⁣ candidate ⁤for the open general⁤ Manager position with the Colorado Rockies. The‌ news, first reported by The ⁣athletic’s Brittany ⁣Ghiroli, adds a layer ‌of uncertainty to the Blue⁢ Jays’ front office future⁤ amidst‍ a crucial postseason ‌run.

Click, who previously served as General Manager for ⁣the Houston Astros from 2020-2022, is one of at least three individuals interviewed for the Rockies’ role, ‍alongside Kansas‍ City royals assistant⁤ GM‌ Scott Sharp and‍ Cleveland Guardians assistant GM Matt⁢ Forman. During his tenure⁤ with Houston,⁤ Click oversaw a 230-154 record, including two World Series appearances and three American League Championship ‌Series berths. he⁢ declined a contract renewal with the Astros following their ⁢2022 World Series ⁢victory, announcing his departure in november of that ⁣year.

While the immediate impact on the Blue Jays’ playoff performance is minimal - mid-season roster changes are impossible at this stage – the growth raises questions about the long-term stability of Toronto’s baseball⁤ operations leadership. Click’s arrival in Toronto was widely viewed as a potential stepping stone to another⁢ GM opportunity.

Blue Jays GM‌ Ross Atkins is currently in the fourth⁤ year⁢ of a five-year contract, set to expire⁤ after the 2026 season,‍ and ‍indications suggest he will return for‍ at least one more year. ⁤However, the future of Blue Jays President⁢ Mark Shapiro remains less certain.

Shapiro, also in the final year of a five-year deal, has described conversations with team owners and board members as “positive”⁢ regarding a potential contract extension.‌ “It’s not appropriate for me to comment ⁢beyond the fact that…I want to remain here,⁣ and I can‍ also say that [Rogers executives] ⁤ Edward [Rogers] and Tony [Staffieri] have been reciprocal in that⁤ desire,”⁢ Shapiro stated in an August media availability.

Nonetheless of the Blue Jays’ postseason outcome – whether they advance⁣ or are eliminated in the ALCS – clarity⁢ regarding the future of⁢ both Shapiro and perhaps click is expected in the coming weeks.
