Luan Pereira Hospitalized, Diagnosed with Tibial Plateau Fracture After ‘Dança dos Famosos’ Injury
Rio de Janeiro – Dancer Luan Pereira has been admitted to a hospital and diagnosed with a tibial plateau fracture following an injury sustained during a performance on the Brazilian reality show Dança dos Famosos (Dance of the Famous). The incident occurred during a lambada routine with his partner, Gracyanne Barbosa, and prompted immediate concern after a loud cracking sound was heard.
The injury sidelines Pereira, a professional dancer and choreographer, from continuing in the competition and requires immediate medical intervention. The tibial plateau is a critical part of the knee joint, and fractures in this area can considerably impact mobility. Barbosa, despite visibly distressed, completed the dance before seeking medical attention for Pereira. The pair’s participation in Dança dos Famosos has been a popular draw for viewers, and Pereira’s absence will alter the dynamic of the show.
According to Pereira, the injury happened during the final turn of the dance. “When we took the last turn, I heard the noise and I thought my knee had hit Gracyanne’s knee,” he explained. “Because I heard a very loud crack.” He initially believed he had collided with his partner, but quickly realized the sound indicated a more serious issue.
Barbosa corroborated the account, stating she saw Pereira’s patella “out” after the accident and felt he had broken a tendon. Despite the pain, she resolved to finish the performance. “At the time I just thought: I need to continue, I’m not going to stop the dance, I’m going to find a way,” she said, adding that the moment was both painful and “very beautiful.”
Both Pereira and Barbosa have expressed optimism about recovery. Barbosa, visibly emotional, stated her belief that “God prepared something much bigger than I deserve” and that she is “absolutely sure” she will recover fully. Pereira is currently undergoing treatment and his recovery timeline remains uncertain.
