Ary Abittan Details Career Fallout Following Rape Accusation, Confirms Dismissal
Actor Ary Abittan publicly addressed the impact of a 2021 rape complaint filed against him during a recent appearance on the French television show A Sunday in the Country, revealing a period of professional and personal devastation. The case, initially dismissed in 2024, was confirmed on appeal by the Paris prosecutor’s office in January 2025. Abittan’s account offers a rare glimpse into the immediate consequences faced by individuals accused of serious crimes, even before a verdict is reached, and underscores the precarious nature of public image in the entertainment industry.
Abittan described being “silenced” and having “everything taken away” following the accusation, including his right to work. “It’s a fall where there is no ground,” he told host Frédéric Lopez. He explained the swiftness with which he was removed from projects, recounting being arrested mid-film shoot, forcing producers to recast his role. “We obviously take away the right to work, we take everything away from you,” Abittan stated, adding that in the entertainment world, “you are judged on everything,” making him vulnerable to immediate repercussions.
The actor further revealed being “taken out of social life,” describing the experience as “dizzying” and “astounding violence… a storm.” This period led to a bout of “depression,” from which he credits “love” with helping him recover.
