New Avatar Fighting Game Announced,Reviving Hopes for a Universe-Based Brawler
A new fighting game set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has been announced, titled avatar Legends: The Fighting Game. The reveal comes as a welcome surprise following the cancellation of the previously announced Avatar fighting game developed by PlatinumGames in 2023. This new project promises a unique combat experience centered around mastering elemental powers, and is slated for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Developed by Navimedeix, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game aims to capture the spirit of the beloved animated series with hand-drawn 2D animation reminiscent of the original show. The game will feature 12 playable characters, alongside companion characters that modify playstyles and add new moves. A single-player campaign with an original story within the Avatar universe, alongside combo challenges, is also planned.
The developers are prioritizing a fluid and responsive combat system, highlighted by a “Flow System” that emphasizes movement, displacements, and cancellations. They also pledge “first class” netcode for stable online play with crossplay functionality between consoles and PC. Post-launch support is planned through seasonal content updates adding new characters to the roster. More facts about the character list is expected to be revealed in the future, with the goal of representing diverse elemental domains and combat styles.
