Diane Keaton, Iconic Star of ‘Annie Hall’ and ‘The Godfather,’ Dies
Diane Keaton, the Academy Award-winning actress celebrated for her roles in classics like “Annie Hall” and “The Godfather,” has died. She was 77. No cause of death has been announced.
keaton rose to prominence in the 1970s, quickly becoming a defining face of American cinema. Her breakthrough role came in 1972 as Kay Adams in Francis Ford CoppolaS “The Godfather.” She followed this with a string of prosperous films, most notably Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall” (1977), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Throughout her career, Keaton demonstrated a remarkable versatility, moving between dramatic and comedic roles. She collaborated frequently with Nancy Meyers, appearing in beloved films such as “Baby Boom” (1987), “Father of the Bride” (1991) and its sequel, and “Something’s Gotta Give” (2003), the latter earning her a final Oscar nomination. other notable roles included appearances in “The Family Stone,” “Morning Glory,” and the “Book Club” films.
Beyond acting, Keaton directed episodes of “Twin Peaks” and the film “hanging Up,” and authored several books, including memoirs “Then Again” and “Let’s Just Say It Wasn’t Pretty,” and also an art and design book, “The House that Pinterest Built.”
In a 2017 interview with the Associated Press,reflecting on receiving the AFI Life Achievement Award,Keaton described the event as “the wedding I never had,or the big gathering I never had.” She also stated at a 2022 hand and footprint ceremony, “I don’t think about my film legacy…I’m just lucky to have been here at all in any way, shape or form. I’m just lucky.”
Keaton openly discussed prioritizing her career over traditional personal relationships, writing in her memoir that she believed commitment would hinder her professional aspirations. She is survived by her children.
