Ty Simpson delivered a standout performance with three touchdown passes as the No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide narrowly defeated No. 14 Missouri 27-24 on Saturday in Columbia, Missouri. The victory marked Alabama’s third southeastern Conference win, improving their season record too 5-1.
Simpson completed 23 of 31 passes for 200 yards, distributing touchdowns to Isaiah Horton (34 yards), Kevin Riley, and daniel Hill. Running back Jam Miller contributed 85 rushing yards on 20 carries.
Missouri opened the scoring, but Alabama quickly responded with a touchdown pass from Simpson to Riley, tying the game at seven after the first quarter. Alabama extended its lead in the second quarter with another Simpson touchdown pass to Horton and a 46-yard field goal by Conor Talty, taking a 17-7 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw a shift in momentum as a Simpson fumble lead to a Missouri touchdown, tying the game at 17. Talty’s subsequent field goal restored Alabama’s lead. The fourth quarter proved decisive, with Simpson connecting with Hill for a touchdown with 3:16 remaining.
Missouri answered with a touchdown with 1:40 left, narrowing the gap to three points. however, a late interception thrown by Missouri quarterback Beau Pribula secured Alabama’s win. Talty had earlier missed a 49-yard field goal attempt.
Alabama (5-1, 3-1 SEC) will return home to host No. 12 Tennessee next Saturday in Tuscaloosa. Missouri fell to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Fans online quickly praised Simpson’s poise and performance in the ranked matchup.
