French Prime Minister Lecornu Reappointed After Week-Long Resignation

Paris, France -⁤ Just five days after submitting his resignation, Sébastien Lecornu has ⁢been reappointed ‍as France’s Prime Minister ‌by President Emmanuel Macron. the move comes after⁢ a period of intense negotiation following Lecornu’s initial resignation due to internal⁢ disputes⁤ within his newly formed government.

Lecornu, who will be serving as ⁤both the fifth adn sixth Prime Minister of France in the last two years, stated he accepts the position “out of ‍duty,” announcing via X (formerly ‌Twitter) that ⁢the new ⁤government “will have to be the embodiment of renewal.” He added that issues ⁢raised during‍ recent consultations with political parties will be open for⁢ parliamentary⁤ debate.

The ⁢reappointment is widely seen as President Macron’s attempt to revitalize‌ his second term, wich is slated to run ‍until⁢ 2027. Macron currently lacks a parliamentary majority and faces ⁢increasing ⁤criticism, even from within his own base of supporters.

The decision⁤ has drawn‌ sharp criticism from opposition‍ leaders. Jordan Bardella, leader of ⁣the far-right National Rally (RN), who has ‍repeatedly called⁤ for new parliamentary elections, declared his⁣ party would not support the new government, labeling lecornu’s reappointment “a bad joke and humiliation‌ of the ‍French.” Jean-Luc Mélenchon, head of the left-wing France Unbowed (LFI), ⁢dismissed the‍ situation as “a ‌comedy.”
