Macron Reappoints Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister Amid Political Turmoil

PARIS ⁤- French President Emmanuel macron has reappointed Sébastien⁢ lecornu ‍as Prime ⁢Minister, the Élysée Palace announced today, following Lecornu’s recent resignation after just 27 days in office. Lecornu, 39, will be tasked with forming a new government, becoming ‍the fifth and sixth prime minister of France in the last two years.

“I‍ accept – out of duty – the task that was entrusted to me,” ⁤Lecornu stated ⁢on X (formerly Twitter).‌ He added that the new government “will have to be⁢ the embodiment of renewal” and ‌pledged open parliamentary‍ debate on ⁤issues raised during recent consultations with⁣ political parties.

The reappointment comes after days ‌of intensive negotiations and internal disputes within lecornu’s ⁢previously appointed⁣ government, leading to his initial resignation. ⁤

The move is widely seen as a critical ‌attempt by Macron to⁢ revitalize his second term, which is slated‍ to run until 2027. Macron currently lacks a parliamentary majority ⁤and faces⁢ increasing criticism, even ⁤from within his own support ⁤base.

Opposition parties have already voiced their disapproval. Jordan Bardella, leader of the far-right National Rally ⁣(RN), ⁣who has repeatedly called for new parliamentary elections, condemned Lecornu’s reappointment‍ as‍ “a bad joke⁣ and humiliation of the⁣ French,” and stated ‍his party will not support the ‌new government. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the far-left France Unbowed (LFI), described the situation as “a comedy.”
