Giants Upset Eagles 34-17, Sparked by Rookie Duo
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The New York giants delivered a stunning 34-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night, fueled by standout performances from rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo. The win marked a notable upset, as the Eagles entered the game as heavy favorites.
The Eagles struggled on both sides of the ball, falling behind 13-3 early after a sluggish start defensively, marked by missed tackles and coverage errors. Philadelphia’s Quinyon Mitchell left the game with a hamstring injury.
Dart showcased his scrambling ability, highlighted by a 19-yard touchdown run completed just 2.4 seconds after the snap – a play statistically less likely to result in a score according to Next Gen Stats.
Skattebo emerged as a key contributor, finishing with three touchdowns and 98 rushing yards. He scored twice in the second half, including a 12-yard run that set up a score and a touchdown that extended the Giants’ lead to 10 points. He also received a 15-yard penalty late in the game for excessive party.
The Giants’ two rookie touchdowns - one by Dart and two by skattebo – marked the first time the team had multiple rookies score rushing touchdowns in the same game as Week 10 of 1980 against dallas, when Larry Heater and Leon Perry each found the endzone.
