Published October 9, 2024

Tropical⁢ Storm Priscilla Impacts ⁣Baja California Sur

As of today, October 9th, Tropical Storm Priscilla is moving slowly off ⁣the western coast of Baja California Sur. The storm’s circulation is forecast to bring very strong, intermittent ‌rains and intense winds to ⁢the region.‍ Coastal areas of Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, and Nayarit are also expected to experience intervals of‌ showers and⁢ strong winds, ⁢accompanied by high waves.

Potential Cyclonic Advancement and Widespread Rainfall

Beyond Priscilla, meteorologists are⁤ monitoring two low-pressure areas with the ‍potential for cyclonic ⁣development. One is located south of Oaxaca, and the other⁤ is off the coast of Veracruz. These systems, ‌interacting with⁤ a mid-level atmospheric trough and⁤ remnants of the monsoon trough‌ in the mexican South Pacific, are⁢ expected ‍to generate very strong to intense rainfall across‌ northeastern, eastern, southern, and southeastern Mexico, including⁤ the Yucatan Peninsula.

Specifically, ⁢authorities are predicting remarkable occasional rains in San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Puebla, and Veracruz, with occasional ⁣torrential rains anticipated in Oaxaca. The central region of the country, ‌including the⁢ Valley of ‌Mexico, should prepare for heavy ⁣to very heavy⁢ rainfall.

Northern and Western Mexico to See Increased ⁣Showers

A low-pressure channel over the Sierra Madre Occidental, combined with moisture influx from both the Pacific Ocean and‍ the gulf of Mexico,⁣ will contribute to showers and heavy⁢ rains in the northern and ‍western states of Mexico.
