‘Minecraft 2′ Officially in Development, Targeting Summer 2027 Release
Warner Bros. is moving forward with a sequel to its blockbuster hit A Minecraft Movie, setting a release date for summer 2027. The proclamation comes as the first film continues its notable run,poised to become one of the year’s highest-grossing releases.
the success of A Minecraft Movie, which debuted with a record $163 million domestic opening and has since grossed over $424 million domestically, signals a strong demand for further installments in the franchise. With a worldwide total nearing $1 billion, the film’s performance has solidified its position as the top domestic release of 2025 and the second-highest grossing film globally for the year. This sequel represents a significant opportunity for Warner Bros. to capitalize on the established fanbase and expand the minecraft universe on the big screen.
The sequel will be produced by Mary Parent and Cale Boyter of Legendary, alongside Roy lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, and Jason Momoa, who starred in the original film.
In addition to the Minecraft sequel, Warner Bros. also announced a date shift for its animated feature Bad Fairies, moving it from July 23, 2027, to May 21, 2027. The film will feature Cynthia Erivo leading the voice cast, with Megan Nicole Dong and Olivier Staphylas directing from a screenplay by Deborah Frances-White.
