Nationals Announce Front Office Changes: DeBartolo to Remain,Longosz & Scialabba Depart
The Washington Nationals are undergoing front office restructuring following the hiring of Paul Toboni as President of Baseball operations. Assistant General Managers Eddie Longosz and Mark Scialabba will not be returning to the institution,as reported by The Athletic’s Britt ghiroli. However, Assistant GM Mike DeBartolo will remain with the Nationals.
These departures are part of a broader shift within the organization, with several scouts and staff members in Florida also expected to leave. The changes began prior to Toboni’s arrival two weeks ago, with the departures of former scouting director Danny Haas (to the Orioles) and senior director of amateur scouting Brad Ciolek (to the Tigers) in september.
longosz joined the Nationals in 2010 and served as Director of Scouting Operations for eight seasons before being promoted to Assistant General Manager and Vice President in 2023, specifically overseeing player advancement and administration. Scialabba’s tenure with the team began even earlier, in 2006. He held the role of Director of Minor League Operations from 2009-2013, then led the player development department starting in 2013, and became Assistant GM of Player Development after the 2019 season.
The moves follow a previous front office overhaul initiated by former Nationals executive Mike Rizzo several years ago, though both Longosz and Scialabba remained with the team through that period. The extent of further changes to Rizzo’s former staff under Toboni remains to be seen.
