Fort Hill Bridge Repairs: Construction Begins in Charleston, WV

Charleston, W.Va. – Construction to repair the deck of ​the Fort hill Bridge in Charleston will begin Monday evening, October 13th, according to the West Virginia‍ Department of Transportation (WVDOT). triton ⁣Construction, which was awarded a $6.67 million contract last week, will ‌undertake the project.

The WVDOT‌ fast-tracked the repairs on the ‍bridge, a section‍ of Interstate ‍64, to address deterioration​ and extend its⁣ lifespan. Work⁣ will initially​ focus on full-depth concrete patching, followed by the request of‌ an impermeable membrane to ⁤prevent water damage. A two-inch asphalt​ overlay will then be applied to create‌ a smoother driving surface and provide additional protection to the concrete deck.

Construction ⁤is scheduled to take ⁣place weekdays from 6 p.m. to⁤ 6 a.m. and⁢ continuously throughout weekends.⁢ WVDOT⁤ anticipates ‍the project will be completed by the end of November.

According to WVDOH bridge engineers, these repairs are ‍intended‌ as an interim⁢ solution, extending the deck’s⁤ usability until ⁣a complete redecking project can be awarded within the next⁢ year.
