Ligue 1+ Subscription Prices Expected to Rise as Subscriber Numbers Soar
PARIS – Ligue 1+ subscribers should anticipate price increases as the streaming service approaches its initial subscriber goals, according to LFP media Director General Nicolas de Tavernost. The announcement, made Tuesday at the “Tomorrow Le Sport” event, signals a shift in strategy after an initial push to attract viewers with competitive pricing.
Ligue 1+ has already reached 1.026 million subscribers after just four days of competition, nearing its first-season target of 1.15 million, as outlined in LFP Media’s business plan. While the service currently broadcasts eight Ligue 1 matches per day – with the ninth previously shown on BeIN Sports until the end of the season – de Tavernost stated, “If there are nine games… it will not be the same price, that is sure. There will be a rise in power.”
Despite the anticipated increase, LFP Media intends to maintain affordable options, including the existing €9.99 per month offer for subscribers under 26 years old. The service’s success follows previous broadcasting arrangements with Mediapro, Amazon Prime, and DAZN, and represents a new attempt by the French football league to control its broadcasting rights and revenue.
