College Fest Showcases Social Justice Films – “Waves of Change

West Barnstable, MA – Cape Cod Community College’s Tilden Arts Centre will ‌host “Waves of ⁤Change,” a three-day arts festival beginning this Friday, featuring⁣ films ‌adn events focused on social justice⁣ and racial equality.The festival kicks off with a performance of “Play ‌It Again, Tim,”‌ a comparsa created by⁤ sisters Isabella and Sophia Mangual, ⁣followed by ⁢a reception.

The festival aims to spark dialog and understanding through art, offering free ​events – with ​the exception of a Friday night concert – and providing a platform for critically important ⁢conversations. “Waves of Change” ⁢comes at a time of heightened national⁣ awareness surrounding racial justice and social equity, ‍offering Cape Cod residents an opportunity⁢ to⁢ engage with these issues through film and performance.

On Saturday, the festival will screen Spike‌ Lee’s ⁣critically‍ acclaimed film, “Do the Right Thing” at 7 p.m.‌ in Tilden ​Auditorium, followed by ‌an audience discussion. Tim Miller, co-president of the Boston society of Film Critics ‍and a film‌ and‌ journalism instructor at Cape​ Cod Community College, calls Lee’s film “the⁤ best movie I’ve ever seen​ about ⁤race relations and easily one of‌ the most important.”

Additional‌ events include a concert featuring the kotoko Brass on‍ Friday night, with tickets‍ priced between $5 and $15. ⁣Reservations are ⁢encouraged for all ‌free​ events,but not required.
