Morocco and UK Deepen Cooperation on Sustainable Water Management
Rabat, Morocco – October 3, 2025 - morocco and the United Kingdom are strengthening their partnership to address critical water challenges, with a focus on innovative and sustainable solutions. The commitment was reaffirmed today during a meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, and UK Ambassador to Morocco, Alex Pinfield, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Rabat.
The discussions centered on expanding collaboration in the water sector, especially regarding the reuse of treated wastewater, flood protection, and the preservation of vital water tables against pollution. This renewed focus comes as Morocco navigates increasing water scarcity and seeks to implement advanced technologies for efficient resource management. The partnership builds upon a memorandum of understanding signed between the two nations, aiming to attract investment in hydraulic and port infrastructure.
Key areas of collaboration outlined during the meeting include promoting sustainable water management practices, developing intelligent logistics solutions, and fostering technologies related to green ports. Ambassador Pinfield emphasized the UK’s dedication to bolstering bilateral cooperation and highlighted the growing interest of British companies in investing in Morocco’s strategic sectors.
The meeting, attended by secretary General abdelfattah Sahibi and other ministry officials, also addressed mechanisms for implementing the existing memorandum of understanding. This collaboration is expected to drive advancements in sustainable water management, contributing to Morocco’s long-term water security and economic development.
