LIRR Riders Face Weekend Service Changes October 3-6, 2025
Long Island, NY - Long Island rail Road customers should anticipate important service alterations this weekend, October 3-6, 2025, due to ongoing track and switch work across multiple branches. The changes impact travel to and from Penn Station, Grand Central Madison, and stations along the Montauk, Ronkonkoma, and West Hempstead Branches.
These planned disruptions are part of the MTA’s ongoing efforts to modernize the LIRR infrastructure, improving reliability and safety for the future. while the work is essential, it will require riders to adjust their travel plans, utilizing shuttle buses and revised train schedules. The majority of changes will be in effect from 12:01 a.m.Saturday, october 4th, through 2 a.m. Monday, October 6th.
Branch-Specific Impacts:
Montauk Branch: Most Montauk Branch trains will run to/from Penn Station, operating hourly during most of the day. Passengers traveling to/from Grand Central Madison will need to transfer at Jamaica. Many Montauk Branch trains have been extended to and from Jamaica to provide additional service at Babylon Station.
Greenport Branch: no trains will operate between Ronkonkoma and Greenport due to switch work. Shuttle buses will replace train service, making all stops between these stations.
Ronkonkoma Branch: Service on the Ronkonkoma Branch is running on a revised schedule and is reduced east of Farmingdale. Trains will run hourly between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma. During the day, every other train will operate between Penn Station and farmingdale only.
West Hempstead Branch: Trains will not run between Valley Stream and West Hempstead in either direction due to track maintainance. Shuttle buses will provide service between these stations. west Hempstead Branch trains will run between Grand Central and Jamaica; riders can connect to bus service by taking a Long Beach Branch train to Valley Stream.
