Devils⁤ Acquire Forward Zack MacEwen in Trade with Ottawa Senators

NEWARK, NJ – The New⁤ Jersey Devils have bolstered their forward depth, ‌acquiring⁢ zack MacEwen from the ⁤Ottawa ⁢Senators ⁤in exchange for forward Kurtis MacDermid, the team announced today. Devils President/General ⁢Manager Tom⁤ Fitzgerald⁣ confirmed the transaction.

MacEwen, 29, split the 2023-24‍ season ‍between Ottawa and their American Hockey League ⁢affiliate, Belleville. He registered two goals and one assist in 21 NHL games‌ last season, adding‍ 21 penalty minutes. ⁢In 23 AHL contests, the forward tallied⁤ seven goals⁤ and nine assists ‌for 16 points,‌ alongside 29 penalty minutes.

A physical presence at 6-foot-4 ‍and‌ 225 ​pounds, ‌MacEwen has ‍appeared in 237 career NHL regular-season games across seven seasons with ‍Vancouver, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Ottawa. He has accumulated 34⁤ points ‍(17 goals, 17‌ assists) and ⁢323 penalty minutes. MacEwen also has‌ seven Stanley Cup Playoff games under his belt, appearing with Vancouver in 2020 and Los Angeles in 2023.

Notably,‌ MacEwen​ played under current Devils assistant coach Brad Shaw during the 2022-23 season with Philadelphia.‍ Prior to joining the NHL, he spent six seasons in the⁢ AHL with Utica ‌(Vancouver affiliate), Lehigh Valley⁣ (Philadelphia affiliate), and​ Belleville (Ottawa affiliate), totaling 122 points (50 goals, 72 assists) in ‌190 games,‌ with ⁤193 penalty minutes.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Vancouver on March 2, 2017, MacEwen ⁣hails ⁣from Charlottetown, Prince ⁢Edward ‌Island. He honed his skills in the ‍Quebec Major​ Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) ‍from ​2014-15 ‌to⁣ 2016-17, playing for ⁢Moncton ‌(2014-15, 2015-16)⁢ and Gatineau⁤ (2016-17). The right-handed⁣ shot ‌adds a versatile element to the ⁤Devils’ roster.
