Total Solar Eclipse 2027: Spain’s Viewing Guide

spain is preparing for a ⁢rare astronomical event: a total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027, ‍expected to last⁣ over ⁤six minutes-the longest such eclipse visible⁤ in the 21st century. NASA reports the duration will exceed typical eclipses, rivaling the 7-minute, 2-second eclipse of July 11, 1991, visible⁣ in ‍Mexico, Central and ⁤South America.

Where and ​When to Witness the 2027 ​Eclipse

The eclipse will⁣ be visible across southern Spain, with the totality phase⁤ occurring around 10:50 ​AM (Spanish peninsular time). ⁣The path of totality‌ will cross the strait ‍of gibraltar,⁢ encompassing ⁣Ceuta and Melilla, the entirety​ of the province of Cádiz, portions of malaga, and the southernmost⁢ areas of⁢ Granada⁣ and Almería,⁣ according ⁣to ‍the ‌Instituto ​Geográfico Nacional (IGN).

This eclipse⁣ is the first of three significant events ‌Spain will experience in ‍three years.‍ A total solar​ eclipse will also be​ visible in central and⁣ northern Spain on August 12, 2026. on January ⁤26, 2028, an annular ​eclipse-often called a “ring of fire”-will be ⁤visible in‌ the southwest and the Balearic Islands.
