Foo Fighters Surprise Release Live EP, Proceeds Benefit Local Food Banks
Foo Fighters have unexpectedly released a new live EP, are Playing Where ???? Vol. 1, available exclusively on Bandcamp. The collection of songs was recorded during a series of intimate, unannounced club performances the band held across the united States in September.
This release arrives as Foo Fighters continue to navigate life and music following the 2022 passing of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins. The EP’s proceeds will directly support local charities dedicated to combating food insecurity in the cities where the September shows took place: San Luis Obispo and Santa Ana, California; Washington, D.C.; and New Haven, Connecticut. This charitable component underscores the band’s commitment to giving back to the communities that support them.
Are Playing Where ???? Vol. 1 follows the release of the band’s 2023 studio album, But Here We Are, their first full-length project created without Hawkins. Earlier this year, Foo Fighters announced a change in drummers, with Ilan Rubin of Nine Inch Nails joining the band after the departure of Josh freese. Freese later became the drummer for nine Inch Nails.
In recent months, Foo Fighters have also shared new music, including a cover of Minor Threat’s ”I Don’t Wanna Hear It” and an original song, “Today’s Song,” signaling continued creative momentum. The band’s enduring hit “Everlong” was also recognized as one of the best songs of the 1990s, appearing at No. 69 on Pitchfork’s list of “The 250 Best Songs of the 1990s.”
