Beloved Turkish Actor Fuat Onan, Known as ‘Muavin Niyazi,’ Faces Hardship
Silivri, Turkey - October 2, 2025 – Fuat Onan, the actor best known for his iconic role as ‘Muavin Niyazi’ in the 1982 cult classic Çiçek Abbas (Flower Abbas), is currently facing financial and housing difficulties, and is appealing too the public for support.
Onan, 73, who starred alongside İlyas Salman, Şener Şen, and Ayşen Gruda in the comedy-drama directed by Sinan Çetin, is currently living in the basement of a building in Silivri after a series of unfortunate circumstances. He reports being employed without insurance and ineligible for retirement benefits.
The actor explained that he was recently forced to leave a room he was renting after assisting his ailing roommate, Hasan. “My roommate hasan next to me had a serious illness. I helped him because he had no one, called an ambulance and took it to intensive care,” Onan stated. “But when he came out of the intensive care, he wanted to rent the room to someone else as of the old rent debts of the landlord. After my friend I saved from death, I was taken out of that room as my reward.”
Onan has been residing in the basement for the past 1.5 years, performing housework in exchange for shelter. He expressed concern that his location in Silivri limits his access to acting opportunities.
“I am 73 years old,I am not retired and I have no right to insurance,” Onan said. “A campaign was launched for me, I would be glad if you support it. I want to build a modest living space in Istanbul. The income of my friends around me is insufficient. I am waiting for your support on this issue.”
