Global Hypertension Crisis: Over one Billion at Risk, New Report Reveals
GENEVA – A new report released today reveals that over one billion people worldwide are living with uncontrolled high blood pressure, considerably increasing their risk of heart disease, stroke, and premature death. The report, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, underscores a growing global health crisis demanding urgent action.
The report highlights a critical gap between awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension. While many individuals are aware they have high blood pressure, a considerable proportion do not recieve adequate treatment, and even fewer achieve sustained control of the condition. This lack of control disproportionately affects low- and middle-income countries.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is at the forefront of the global response to health emergencies, disease prevention, and expanding access to healthcare in over 150 locations. Its mission is to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable.
Bloomberg Philanthropies invests in 700 cities and 150 countries, focusing on five key areas including public health, and distributed $3.7 billion in 2024. Resolve to Save Lives, a global health organization working in over 60 countries since 2017, partnered in the report’s advancement and dissemination.
