Marquez Shifts Focus to 2026 Preparation, Declines involvement in Bagnaia-Marquez Championship Battle
Marc Marquez is prioritizing a safe and consistent finish to the 2024 MotoGP season as he builds towards the 2026 campaign, stating he ”feel[s] that I have to finish the year without hurting me.” The Ducati rider, speaking after the Japanese Grand Prix, revealed a change in mindset from previous years where he’d focus on maximizing wins after securing a title. “In the past I thought ‘I have already conquered the title, now I will try to win as much races possible,'” Marquez explained.”now rather… I no longer want to put pressure on me, I have already had enough in recent years.”
Marquez emphasized a data-gathering approach for the remaining races, aiming to better understand adjustments made throughout the year. ”We must study and understand the things that have been tried during the year… it is better to start already on the race weekends on different circuits,” he said, clarifying this wouldn’t involve constant bike changes but “small but concrete things” to prepare for the final test in Valencia and subsequent improvements for the 2025 season.
Regarding the battle for second place in the championship between teammate Pecco Bagnaia and his brother, Alex marquez (Gresini Racing), the #93 rider asserted he would remain neutral. “I won’t get to intake in this matter,” Marquez stated. “Everyone will do their job… I will give 100% and if I have to manage the situation… I will do it only to get the maximum result for myself.” He believes Alex possesses the speed to secure the position independently, adding, “Having said that, the normal thing would be that Pecco is second in the championship five races from the end.” Marquez also noted that if Alex were to finish third overall with the Gresini team, it would equal his own 2024 result with a satellite team and a previous-year motorcycle.
