Ziggo Sport Secures Broadcast‍ Rights ⁣for New Hydrogen Racing⁣ Series, Extreme H

Dutch sports broadcaster Ziggo Sport has added its name to the growing list of media partners for Extreme H, a new off-road racing series powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The two-year agreement will bring coverage of the‍ innovative motorsport competition to Ziggo Sport’s channels, beginning wiht the series’ inaugural season.

This partnership arrives as Extreme H accelerates its transition ⁢from its predecessor, Extreme E, and prepares⁢ to launch its Extreme H World Cup this year. ⁣The series, a spinoff of the electric SUV racing championship, prioritizes sustainable energy ⁢solutions and‌ gender equality in motorsports-requiring teams ⁢to field an equal number of male and female drivers. The deal with Ziggo Sport underscores the increasing interest‌ in hydrogen-powered racing and its potential to showcase clean energy technology.

Earlier this week, Extreme H also announced an expansion ‍of its media rights deal with Fox Sports, extending coverage⁣ to Mexico and Central America. Originally‍ planned to become an official FIA World Championship in 2026, the⁤ series shifted gears in December, ⁢opting for a quicker⁣ launch with the‌ world cup format.

Extreme H’s off-road race format is designed to demonstrate the viability of hydrogen power as a clean energy choice. The series began in 2021 as Extreme E but paused its 2024‍ season following events in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Scotland to focus⁤ on⁢ the hydrogen transition.

“We are delighted to partner with Ziggo Sport to offer fans access to a‌ brand-new form of world-class racing, combining entertainment, innovation, and sustainability,” a statement from Extreme H read. “We look forward to showcasing the series across the Ziggo Sport‌ channels over the next two years.”
