Harper College Expands Community Education Offerings, Prepares Students for Future Workforce
Palatine, IL – October 26, 2023 – Harper College is considerably broadening its Community Education (CE) program, introducing courses ranging from improvisational theater to Arabic language instruction, and even a forthcoming introduction to quantum computing aimed at preparing young learners for emerging job markets. The expansion underscores Harper’s longstanding commitment to lifelong learning and workforce development, positioning the college as a national leader in continuing education.
For the past 25 years, Harper College has prioritized accessible education beyond conventional degree programs. Scott, a Harper College administrator, noted that the CE program is frequently used as a benchmark by colleges nationwide seeking to bolster their own community outreach efforts. The program’s success has been formally recognized by the Learning Resources Network, with Harper staff consistently presenting at national conferences annually.
A key component of this forward-thinking approach is the planned quantum computing course for kids, slated to launch next summer. Brian,a lifelong aspiring writer,is currently enrolled in Harper’s writing courses,praising the program and its instructors for helping him hone his craft. He specifically highlighted Laura Ehrke, a published author, and the supportive environment fostered within the writing cohort. “I’m a fiction writer, so I really wanted to learn how to write and be engaging,” Brian said. “It’s great to learn from others as well as from the person who’s teaching the class.”
