Olympique de Marseille defender Facundo Medina will be sidelined for approximately eight weeks due to a sprained right ankle sustained during Tuesday’s 4-0 champions League victory over Ajax Amsterdam. The injury occurred in the 36th minute following a collision with Ajax’s Rosa.
The loss of Medina is a setback for OM coach Roberto de Zerbi, who had recently favored a central defensive pairing of Medina and Aguerd. Medina, on loan from Lens with an option to buy, has experienced injury issues since arriving this summer, previously missing time due to an ankle injury in August that led to a suspension for the opening matches of Ligue 1. this latest injury will keep the 26-year-old defender out of action until late November or early December.
according to a club statement released Wednesday, “Wounded during the meeting against Ajax Amsterdam, last night, Facundo medina suffers from a sprain of the right ankle and will be far from the grounds almost two months. Olympique de Marseille wishes a speedy recovery in Facundo and hopes to see it as quickly as possible on the grounds.” Egan-Riley replaced Medina against Ajax and performed well.
