Flamengo received $7.5 million from FIFA on tuesday (October 30) as part of prize money distribution for its performance in the recent Club world Cup, considerably boosting the club’s finances. This latest payment, equivalent to approximately $40 million Brazilian reais, is in addition to the $15.2 million already received for participation and further bonuses earned during the tournament.
The total sum earned by Flamengo from the Club World Cup reached $23.7 million (roughly $126 million Brazilian reais) after factoring in payments for wins against Esperance of Tunisia and Chelsea of England, as well as a draw with Los Angeles FC. While these figures represent gross amounts, the club anticipates a smaller net balance after accounting for taxes in both the United States and Brazil. A full accounting will be released by Flamengo at the end of the year.
Flamengo advanced to the round of 16 after topping its group, defeating Esperance 2-0 and overcoming Chelsea with a 3-1 comeback victory. A 1-1 draw against Los Angeles FC preceded their elimination by Bayern Munich in the round of 16, with a final score of 4-2.
The next edition of the Club world Cup in its current format will be held in 2029. to qualify, Flamengo must win one of the next four Copa libertadores tournaments, with the club currently in the semifinals of the 2024 competition, set to face Racing (Argentina) on October 22 and 29.
