Dolly Parton to Miss Governors Awards Amid Health challenges
Dolly Parton will not attend the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ (AMPAS) Governors Awards ceremony on November 16, sources confirmed Tuesday. The contry music icon is slated to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the event.
Parton’s absence comes shortly after she announced the postponement of several December concert dates in Las Vegas, citing “some health challenges” and the need for medical procedures. While the Academy was aware of Parton’s potential absence, the specific reason for missing the Governors Awards remains unclear.
The Governors Awards honor individuals for their contributions to the film industry. This year’s recipients also include Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise, and Wynn Thomas. Parton is being recognized with the Hersholt Award for her humanitarian efforts, which have ”brought credit to the industry by promoting human welfare and contributing to rectifying inequities.”
Originally scheduled to perform six shows at Caesars Palace from December 4-16, Parton’s Las Vegas residency has been moved to September 2026. Each honoree will be presented with an Oscar statuette at the November 16 ceremony at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood.
