The debate surrounding Norwood highlights a critical ⁣juncture for the industry, as advancements in artificial intelligence raise ‌questions about ⁤the future of acting,⁤ intellectual‍ property, and the very definition of⁤ performance. Particle6 ‌creator Eline Van der Velden defended Norwood, stating she “is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work -⁤ a piece of art,” and likened AI to “a new tool, a new paintbrush” akin to‍ animation or CGI. Van der Velden,⁣ herself an actor, asserted that⁢ AI cannot diminish “the craft or joy ⁤of human performance.”

Though, numerous actors have publicly condemned⁤ the creation. Melissa Barrera, Kiersey Clemons, Mara Wilson, and ⁤Whoopi Goldberg have all voiced concerns.
