Bayern Munich Executive Calls Newcastle United‘s Woltemade Fee ‘Unacceptable’
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a member of Bayern Munich’s supervisory board, sharply criticized Newcastle United’s €80 million transfer fee for VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, labeling the expenditure excessive and suggesting Newcastle overpaid substantially. The comments, made during an appearance on BR24,highlight a growing concern within Bayern Munich regarding inflated transfer fees in the current market.
Rummenigge, alongside Uli Hoeneß,Herbert hainer,Jan Dreesen, and Max Eberl, reportedly expressed discomfort with the price tag, stating,”I’ll be honest, when this story with Woltemade and then the demands of Stuttgart came up,I,as well as uli,Herbert Hainer,Jan Dreesen, and Max Eberl, said: ‘Guys,we are reaching figures that I no longer find acceptable.’ We shouldn’t meet every demand to make someone happy, especially the financiers at Stuttgart.” He went on to say, “I can only congratulate the people in Stuttgart for finding – let me use quotation marks here – ‘an idiot’ who paid that much money, because we certainly wouldn’t have done that in Munich.”
Newcastle United secured Woltemade for €75 million with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons, a figure that exceeded Bayern Munich’s valuation of the player. While Bayern Munich is currently performing strongly and preparing for another Champions League campaign, the transfer fee has clearly registered as a point of contention within the club’s leadership, signaling a potential reluctance to engage in similar bidding wars in the future.
