Comey indictment: Trump‘s “Authoritarian” Attempt too Rewrite History, warns Former White House Lawyer
Washington D.C. – The recent indictment of former FBI Director James Comey is not an isolated legal matter, but a deliberate attempt by Donald Trump to “rewrite history” and exact retribution on his political opponents, according to Ty Cobb, a former senior White House lawyer who served during the Mueller examination.
Cobb, speaking on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday, characterized Trump’s actions as “wholly unconstitutional [and] authoritarian,” warning that anyone involved in events Trump deems unfavorable is now “in real danger.” He specifically cited the January 6th insurrection, the refusal to concede the 2020 election, the handling of classified documents, and Trump’s recent conviction as a felon as events the former president seeks to distort.
“Trump wants to rewrite history so that the next generation may not know…that he was a criminal,” Cobb stated.
While acknowledging the indictment – alleging Comey lied to Congress – Cobb expressed skepticism that the case would succeed in court. He pointed to significant flaws in the prosecution, including Trump’s dismissal of a federal prosecutor, Erik siebert, after he refused to pursue charges against comey. The subsequent appointment of Lindsey Halligan, a White House aide with no prosecutorial experience, to lead the case further fueled Cobb’s concerns.
Cobb sharply criticized Halligan’s past role attempting to downplay the history of slavery at the Smithsonian, arguing she was chosen to “whitewash” American history. ”America needs to learn from the mistakes and lessons that we’ve had, and one of the biggest mistakes that America ever had was re-electing President Trump,” he asserted.
Having served as Trump’s liaison to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Cobb has become a vocal critic of the former president. He emphasized that his current role allows him to offer an unbiased assessment,
