WILLIAMSBURG, VA – September 28, 2024 – William & Mary men’s tennis faced a challenging weekend of competition at the Liberty Dual, securing several victories against Liberty and Charlotte despite tough matchups. The tribe showcased resilience in both singles and doubles play, with key wins from Austin Cohen and Dylan chou highlighting the team’s performance.
The dual meet provided valuable early-season experience for the Tribe, testing their lineup against a pair of competitive programs. Results from the weekend will inform coaching decisions as the team prepares for the remainder of the fall season and ultimately, the spring championship schedule. William & Mary aims to build on these performances, refining strategies and solidifying player roles.
Saturday,September 27 - Doubles Play
The weekend commenced with doubles action on Saturday,where Sparks/Auytayakul of Liberty defeated Hansen/Bortnichek,7-5.Ekpenyong/Vorwerk (Liberty) also prevailed over Hansen/Bortnichek (W&M) with a 7-5 score. However, Roothman/Robinson (Liberty) secured a 6-2 victory against Katz/Chou (W&M), and gouws/Santiago arraez (Liberty) edged Nilsson/Cohen (W&M) with a 7-5 result.
Sunday, September 29 – singles competition
Sunday’s singles matches saw mixed results for the Tribe. Andrew Hayduke II (UNCW) defeated Theo Nilsson (W&M) in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Massimo Pizzigoni (Charlotte) overcame Oliver Hague (W&M), 6-2, 4-6, 6-0, while Emilio Sanchez (Charlotte) bested Gur Trakhtenberg (W&M) after a three-set contest, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Austin Cohen (W&M) delivered a strong performance, defeating Brett Gloria (Charlotte) 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Moritz Muenster (Charlotte) defeated Nikita Bortnichek (W&M) 7-5, 6-1. Dylan Chou (W&M) secured a win against danny Yassine (Charlotte), 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Jack DiMenna (Charlotte) defeated Theo Nilsson (W&M) in straight sets,6-1,6-1.

Doubles play on Sunday saw Sanchez/Pizzigoni (Charlotte) defeat Trakhtenberg/Hague (W&M) 7-6 (6). Hansen/Bortnichek (W&M) secured a 7-6 (4) victory over Gloria/Yassine (Charlotte). Chou/Cohen (W&M) completed the day with a 6-4 win against DiMenna/Muenster (Charlotte).
