Phillies‘ Trea Turner Activated, Returns for Regular Season Finale
Philadelphia phillies shortstop Trea Turner is back in the lineup for Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Minnesota Twins, having been activated from the injured list after a strained right hamstring sidelined him since September 7th. While expected to play, Phillies manager Rob Thomson indicated Turner will not play the full nine innings.
turner’s return comes as the Phillies have already clinched the No. 2 seed in the National League playoffs. Despite the secured position, Turner’s presence is crucial as he currently leads the NL in batting average (.305) and ranks second in hits (179), trailing only Luis Arraez of the San Diego Padres entering Saturday. He also boasts 36 stolen bases. The phillies could still tie the Milwaukee Brewers for the best record in baseball, but Milwaukee holds the tiebreaker.
To make room for Turner on the roster, right-hander Max Lazar was optioned to the rookie-level florida Complex League Phillies.
During Saturday’s 5-0 loss to the Twins, Phillies starter Ranger Suarez was hit by a 106 mph line drive, resulting in a right thigh contusion. He will undergo further evaluation.
