PGA Tour Winner Jake Knapp‘s Girlfriend, Makena White, Dies at 28
Makena White, the girlfriend of PGA Tour winner Jake Knapp, has died unexpectedly at the age of 28, friends announced via her Instagram account this week. The sudden loss has sent shockwaves thru the golf community and left Knapp, 31, mourning the loss of his partner of two years.
White’s passing was announced in a heartfelt post on her Instagram page. “Hi everyone – this is Makena’s friend, writing with the heaviest heart to share that Makena passed away earlier this week,” the post read. ”She is already so deeply missed by her Dad, her family, her friends, and of course by Nelly and Fergie.” The post highlighted White’s vibrant personality and generous spirit, describing her as someone who made everyone feel special.
Knapp and White publicly confirmed thier relationship after Knapp secured his first and only PGA Tour victory at the Mexico Open in February 2023. They frequently shared glimpses of their life together on social media, showcasing their travels and support for each other’s endeavors.
Just six weeks prior to the announcement of her death, White posted a touching message to Knapp on Instagram, celebrating their second year together. “Year 2 of first fairway hugs & watching you live out your dreams,” she wrote. ”Second season in the books – forever grateful to be on this walk with you, here’s to many many many more! I looooove you sweet boy, you make it so dang easy to be proud.”
The cause of White’s death has not been disclosed.
Knapp, currently ranked No. 80 in the world,won the Mexico Open at Vidanta in February 2023,a victory that marked a career milestone for the American golfer.
Tributes have poured in from within the golf world, with CBS golf reporter Amanda Balionis writing on Instagram, “Getting to know Makena was one of my favorite parts of this last year… So much laughter, passion and she never met a stranger. I will miss her light… it touched so many.” Golf reporter Dan Rapaport added, “What a light she was.”
