DORTMUND – Borussia Dortmund midfielders Emre Can and Niklas Süle must consistently prove their worth this season to earn contract extensions beyond 2026, according to a report by t-online.de.sporting director Lars Ricken and sports director Sebastian Kehl have set strong performance as a condition for new contracts.
Both players are among the team’s top earners, with Can reportedly making around €10 million annually and Süle around €14 million. Their ability to stay healthy is under scrutiny, as Can has been sidelined sence July with adductor complaints, reportedly playing through pain and receiving injections at the end of last season. Süle is currently recovering from a muscle bundle tear in his calf sustained during the season opener against juventus Turin.
Competition for their positions is fierce. Midfield options include Marcel Sabitzer, Felix Nmecha, Pascal Groß, Carney Chukuwuemeka, and Jobe Bellingham, while central defense features players like Waldemar Anton and Nico Schlotterbeck.
