Füchse Berlin Face Crucial Kielce Clash with LichtleinS Status Uncertain
BERLIN – Füchse Berlin are anxiously awaiting updates on the availability of key player Nils Lichtlein as they prepare for a critical Champions League match against Kielce. Lichtlein has missed recent games against Aalborg (31-28) and MT Melsungen (30-24) due to a shoulder issue, initially described as a precaution, but his condition remains a concern heading into Wednesday’s contest in Poland.
The potential absence of Lichtlein, a national team player, throws a wrench into Berlin’s plans, notably in the backcourt. Teammate Mathias Gidsel expressed pessimism, stating, ”I believe it doesn’t look so good.” Coach Jaron Krickau echoed this sentiment, confirming they won’t risk Lichtlein’s health at this stage of the season. The Füchse are already navigating a thin roster, and Lichtlein’s injury could significantly impact their offensive capabilities.
Gidsel acknowledged the challenge, noting, “It will naturally be challenging in Kielce if we only have four and a half backcourt players. It’s also not optimal in training; we’re talking a lot and training less right now.But we will find solutions.” Krickau is proactively addressing the manpower shortage, having called up six youth players to bolster training numbers.
“Firstly, I can take a look at them, and secondly, we get more volume in our training,” Krickau explained. “Thirteen players aren’t optimal, but it’s no reason why we shouldn’t be triumphant in Kielce. Everyone is still fit and fresh, and it’s still early in the season. We play with seven players when we need them or with 15 players when we need them; it makes no difference.” The Füchse Berlin will continue to monitor Lichtlein’s progress, hoping for a positive update before their pivotal match against Kielce.
