Key El Nacional Players Set to depart amidst Club Crisis
Quito, Ecuador – September 23, 2025 – Two prominent players, David Cabezas and Anthony Bedoya, are expected to leave El Nacional Sports Club in the coming days, according to reports. The departures come amidst a challenging period for the Ecuadorian club, which is reportedly facing financial difficulties including up to four months of unpaid player salaries.
Journalist Stalin Cobeña revealed on ‘mundo Deportivo’ (104.1 FM) that both cabezas and Bedoya, key members of the team that recently avoided relegation but failed to qualify for the final hexagonal in the Serie A championship race, did not participate in Tuesday’s training session. Cobeña stated the players are leaving due to “extra football” related issues and are feeling “uncomfortable,” describing the situation as “very complicated.”
El Nacional supporters are reeling from a recent 4-0 defeat against Sport Emelec at the George Capwell stadium, following Emelec’s own 4-0 loss to BSC. The potential loss of Cabezas and Bedoya adds further uncertainty to the club’s future.
