Earthquake in Mexico in Chiapas, magnitude 6.4 on the border with Guatemala

A magnitude 6.4⁤ earthquake struck the border region between ⁢Mexico‘s Chiapas state and⁤ Guatemala on May 12, 2024, at 16:17 ⁢local time (22:17 UTC). Initial reports⁣ indicate strong shaking was felt across southern ‌Mexico and in parts of Guatemala, prompting safety ​checks ​and triggering emergency response protocols.

The quake’s‌ epicenter was located near⁢ the town ⁢of Motozintla, Chiapas, according ‌to the National ⁣Seismological ⁤Network‍ of Mexico.
