Gavi Faces Extended Absence as Injury Proves Worse Than Initially Feared
FC Barcelona midfielder Gavi will be sidelined for a significantly longer period than initially anticipated after undergoing arthroscopic surgery, according to a report by Sports World. Originally projected for a five-week recovery, the procedure revealed a more severe injury, extending his forced break.
This setback marks the second major injury of Gavi’s young career, following a cruciate ligament tear at the end of 2023 that kept him out for approximately ten months. The prolonged absence is a further blow to FC Barcelona, already coping with injuries to other key players. Fermín López sustained an injury during the 3-0 victory against FC Getafe on Sunday and will also be out for several weeks.
The initial assessment suggested arthroscopy would alleviate Gavi’s symptoms, but the surgery uncovered a more substantial issue. Sport1 reports that the club is reeling from the ”unpleasant surprise.” The length of the extended recovery period has not yet been disclosed.
