FC Porto handball Dominates Belenenses in 41-34 Season Opener

Porto, Portugal – FC Porto’s handball team secured a commanding 41-34 victory over Belenenses in their first official match of the 2025/26 season, played at the Dragão Arena. The win follows away victories against Arsenal da Devesa (43-17) adn ABC (35-25) in Braga, marking a strong start to the National Championship for the ‘Portistas.’

Porto established early control, racing to a 4-0 lead within the first four minutes. While Belenenses briefly narrowed the gap to 11-10, porto consistently maintained their advantage, building to a 20-13 lead by halftime. José Luís Ferreira and Linus Persson spearheaded the attack in the first half, each contributing four goals.

The second half saw Porto extend their dominance, quickly increasing the lead to nine (30-21) and then ten goals (35-25) entering the final quarter. Vasco Costa and Ricardo Brandão then took charge offensively, leading the scoring as Porto comfortably closed out the match.

FC Porto will next face rivals Sporting CP in a highly anticipated clash on September 27th at 18:00 at pavilhão João Rocha in Alvalade. The match will be broadcast on porto Canal.
