Limassol Dog Sanctuary Faces Eviction After 22 Years
LIMASSOL, CYPRUS – Sirius Dog Sanctuary, a long-standing refuge for abandoned dogs in Limassol, is facing eviction from its current location after 22 years of operation. Teh sanctuary received notice that the land it occupies has been sold, adn is required to vacate the property by November 30, 2025.
For decades, Sirius has provided safety, medical attention, and rehabilitation for dozens of homeless dogs, offering them a second chance at life. The sudden sale of the land represents a significant challenge for the institution, threatening the wellbeing of the 14 dogs currently in its care and the continuation of its vital services. Volunteers are now urgently seeking a new location and resources to relocate the animals and necessary infrastructure.
The news of the impending eviction came as a “real blow” and caused “shock and strong emotional stress” to the sirius team, according to a published statement. The primary focus is now on securing a suitable new home for the dogs, requiring at least 13 secure aviaries or a plot of land to which existing structures can be moved.
“Your kindness and support have always helped us overcome difficulties. We beleive that together we can find a way out and save our dogs safe,” the sanctuary stated.
sirius Dog Sanctuary is appealing to the public for assistance, requesting donations of land, construction materials for aviaries, or financial contributions to support the relocation effort.Further details on how to contribute can be found on the sanctuaryS official website and Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/siriusdogsanctuary?ref=embed_video.
