Canada’s Arop Wins Bronze in 800m as Wanyonyi Claims World Title

Arop Secures Bronze in 800m as Kenyan Wanyonyi Takes Gold

TOKYO – Canada’s Marco Arop claimed bronze in​ the men’s 800m final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo ⁤on Saturday, finishing behind gold medalist Emmanuel Wanyonyi​ of Kenya. Wanyonyi ⁤dethroned Arop, who was the‌ reigning​ world champion entering the competition, with a winning time of 1:44.34.

Arop finished with a time of 1:44.51, while Ben Pattison of Great Britain secured silver in 1:44.47.

The 24-year-old ‍Arop, from Edmonton, alta., was looking to defend⁤ his title won at the 2023 World Athletics Championships⁢ in Budapest. He qualified for the final after winning his semi-final‍ heat⁢ in ‌1:44.75. Wanyonyi, the 2023 silver medalist, proved too‍ strong in the final sprint, overtaking arop in the final 100 meters.
