CINCINNATI (AP) -⁣ cincinnati Bengals⁣ quarterback Joe Burrow successfully underwent surgery on his injured ⁤left toe Friday, the team​ announced. the surgery ​addresses a⁤ turf toe injury sustained ⁤during last week’s ⁣game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, sidelining the star quarterback‌ for at least four ⁣games.

The injury marks ‌Burrow’s ⁢third significant setback in ⁢his six NFL seasons since being drafted first overall in 2020,raising⁣ concerns about the long-term health of a​ franchise cornerstone.While the team⁣ has not provided a definitive timeline for his return, preliminary estimates suggest Burrow ⁢could be out up to three ⁣months. Jake Browning will⁢ take over as‍ the Bengals’ starting quarterback,‍ with Brett Rypien serving as his backup.

Coach Zac Taylor confirmed ‌the surgery went ⁤well but refrained from offering a specific recovery timetable. ‍Burrow was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, triggering the minimum four-game absence. The Bengals (2-1) will face the minnesota Vikings‍ on Sunday, seeking their first ⁣3-0 start since 2015 with Browning under center.

Along with Burrow’s absence, the Bengals announced ‍rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart is out for Sunday’s game due to an ankle injury. Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt is ⁤doubtful ⁤with a hamstring‌ injury, and cornerback ‌DJ Turner II is questionable, also with a hamstring issue.
