indonesian Ministry Outlines Four Keys to Graduate Success
Padang, West Sumatra – The Indonesian Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is advising new graduates to prioritize four crucial areas for sustained career growth and long-term success. The guidance was delivered by Mukhamad Najib, Director of Institutions at the ministry’s Higher Education Directorate General, during a graduation ceremony at Padang State University on Saturday.
Najib stressed the ongoing need for skill development, noting that the demands of the job market are constantly evolving. He cited the example of lecturer qualifications, which have recently been updated by the government to require a master’s degree, where previously a bachelor’s degree was sufficient.
Beyond academic qualifications, Najib encouraged graduates to actively pursue technical skills through training programs and professional certifications. “In other words, qualifications and competencies demanded by the job market continue to shift as times change,” he explained.
The ministry also emphasized the critical role of personal branding. “Without a good reputation, the competencies and qualifications we build will be less valued,” Najib argued, highlighting the importance of a strong personal image and reputation.
Najib urged graduates to build extensive professional networks while prioritizing self-care and self-awareness to prevent burnout. He underscored the value of introspection, stating, “We often overlook the importance of talking to ourselves. In fact, it is important to understand who we are and our capacity.”
