packers’ Josh Jacobs Eyes Historic Touchdown Streak Against Browns
GREEN BAY, WI – Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has the possibility to achieve a feat not seen in over six decades, entering Sunday’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns needing just one rushing touchdown to match a 61-year-old NFL record.Jacobs has scored in 13 consecutive games, amassing 16 rushing touchdowns over that span – a run second only to Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Taylor, who had 16 touchdowns in a 10-game stretch from October 14 to December 16, 1962.
The streak began during a 20-19 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 11 and included multiple standout performances, notably a pair of three-touchdown games against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 12 and at the Detroit Lions in Week 14. Should Jacobs find the end zone against Cleveland, he will tie LaDainian Tomlinson for the longest streak of consecutive games with a rushing touchdown in NFL history.
“The guy just creates plays,” said offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich. “He’s just got a knack for finding the seam, getting in the end zone. It’s just a big confidence boost when you get down inside the 5-yard line, give him the ball a couple times and you got a touchdown.”
Jacobs’ recent success was on full display in the Packers’ 27-18 victory over the Washington Commanders, where he powered through linebacker frankie Luvu for a 2-yard touchdown. That score marked his 15th during the current 11-game streak and his 12th from inside the 4-yard line.
“Having a guy like that helps you out,” right guard Sean Rhyan said.”We’re juiced up, just gonna try to get all our backs some light and hopefully keep that streak going for him.”
While Jacobs has previously generated 223 total yards in two games against the Browns, he has yet to score a rushing touchdown against them – one of only eight teams he’s faced multiple times without finding the end zone. despite the potential to tie tomlinson’s record, Jacobs remains focused on the team’s overall goal.
“He’s one guy that I looked up to growing up playing this running back position, so it’s definitely a great honor,” Jacobs said. “But, man, I don’t really too much dig into it or look into it. I’m more concerned with wins and losses.” the Packers are currently seeking their first road win of the season.
