Nevada City, CA – Residents are invited to an open house on October 2 to learn about proposed improvements to the Highway 49 corridor, a project aimed at enhancing safety and accessibility for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. The event will be held as Caltrans advances plans for the Hwy 49 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project,a important undertaking developed in partnership with the Nevada County Transportation Commission (NCTC).
The project addresses critical infrastructure needs along a key stretch of Highway 49, focusing on improving safety and connectivity to the Eric Rood Administrative Center, recreational areas, and Nevada City itself. Currently, limited safe crossings pose challenges for public access to these destinations. The planned improvements seek to rectify these issues, creating a more integrated and secure transportation network for the community. the Project Approval and Environmental Document (PA&ED) phase is expected to conclude by year’s end, with construction tentatively scheduled to begin in spring 2028.
