Moroccan King Inaugurates Major Port Complex in Casablanca, Signaling Modernization Push
Casablanca, Morocco – king Mohammed VI today unveiled a sprawling new port complex in Casablanca, a key component of a broader national strategy to modernize Morocco’s infrastructure and bolster its economic standing.The inauguration included a new fishing port and a shipyard designed to attract investment and strengthen the country’s shipbuilding industry, alongside a new cruise terminal intended to boost tourism.
The ambitious project aims to significantly upgrade Morocco’s maritime capabilities and position the nation as a key player in regional and global trade. the new fishing port is equipped to accommodate over 260 artisanal fishing boats and nearly 100 coastal vessels, featuring a dedicated hall for fresh fish storage.The shipyard seeks to revitalize the shipbuilding and repair sector, while the cruise terminal is expected to enhance Casablanca’s appeal as a tourist destination.
During the visit, King Mohammed VI inspected the facilities, observing fresh fish already being stored and touring the shipyard. The projects reflect the monarch’s ongoing commitment to national progress, a pattern sociologist Youssef Chihab has described as an “unconditional and constant dedication” to the kingdom’s future, despite limited natural resources. Chihab, promoting his recent book on the King’s building projects, highlighted Morocco’s strength in “a people rich in its unified diversity, its global values and its unwavering link with its king.”
