Matt Reeves Hints at Unique Villain for “The Batman part II”
LOS ANGELES, CA – Matt Reeves is offering new insight into his vision for “The Batman Part II,” revealing the upcoming film will deeply explore Bruce Wayne‘s character and feature a villain never before depicted on the big screen. The director shared details during a recent interview with Josh Horowitz of Happy Sad Confused at the Emmys.
Reeves emphasized a departure from typical Batman sequel structures, which often center on villain origin stories. “the frist story is so much about The Batman,” he explained. “I always wanted in the movies…that I always wanted the movies to be focused on his character.” He intends to maintain Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne as the central focus, even across a potential trilogy.
This focus guided his villain selection.”Picking the right villain that digs into what that does and goes into his past and his life, that was what drove that discussion,” Reeves stated. “We’re super excited about it, and I will say, it’s never really been done in a movie before.”
The announcement has sparked speculation among fans, with theories pointing towards characters like Hush or the Court of Owls. Reeves also clarified that his Batman franchise exists as a standalone “Elseworlds” project, separate from the broader DC Universe, though still under the DC banner.
Production for “The Batman Part II” is scheduled to begin next april, with a theatrical release currently set for October 1st, 2027.
